A relaxed way to see a lot of Havana is offered by the "hop on hop off" sightseeing bus. This open top bus tour takes you along various interesting parts of the city. From Hotel Plaza it takes just minutes to reach Havana's famous sea boulevard El Malecon and the major tourist sites in the colonial part of town. Here you find many restaurant, bars and terraces. Although the restaurants in Old Havana generally are decent to good, we recommend that you explore what the private restaurants or "paladars" have to offer. New paladars open up weekly; just ask around for the latest recommendation for the best food in town.

If you came to Cuba for some serious Salsa dancing, Casa de la Musica in Miramar should be on your shortlist of places to go. However, to enjoy live music, you don't have to jump in a taxi since in most old Havana bars you can enjoy a drink while listening to a group of talented musicians.

Havana organizes many cultural festivals that appeal to a wide variety of interest. Among them the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, the Habano Cuban Cigar Festival (Feb.-March), The International Ballet Festival of Havana (Oct.-Nov.) and the Havana Jazz festival (December).

The Havana Carnival (Augustus) draws thousands of Habaneros to the Malecon where Costumes, light, music and dance make for an interesting spectacle. We suggest you check exact dates in advance because they tend to slightly vary year by year.

When you're short on time, there are a wide selection of excursion to choose from based around themes such as architecture, history and nightlife.
